Day 21 - Apple picking X

After a long night of hanging out playing Tekken and Scene It, I woke up at 9ish to get ready to go apple picking at 10. I took a shower at 9:30 and when I finished I got a text from my friend and my sister at the same time that they were gonna be 20 minutes late. We didn't get going till 11 and I was pretty hungry. I wanted to wait until we got there so I can indulge in some apple cider donuts.

The drive over was pretty good and when we got there it was hotter than I expected. I would have preferred wearing shorts instead of jeans. Probably was better wearing jeans though because I might have gotten stung by a bee. We hopped over to the market and I picked up some donuts for breakfast. Dee-licious.

We picked apples for about 2 hours. Mostly red delicious since we didn't know how to pick the other apples. The red delicious trees were smaller too so it was easier to find the good ones. We got a few jonamac and a  jonagold apple. I think my friend and I ended up getting 7 pounds of apples.

My original plan was to take a nap after apple picking to catch up on sleep from before. I had also planned to eat pretty cleanly in anticipation of the run tomorrow. I have this fear that I'm gonna have to take a dump during any race I do. However, as it goes when people come to central jersey, you have to eat at the Rutgers grease trucks. I was pretty full from eating 3 apples straight from the tree, so I agreed with my friend that we'd split it in half. Which in retrospect was a good idea. We got a fat barry. It was a cheesesteak with egg and bacon and fries I think.

After we ate, we hung out at my house and watched Djokovic beat Federer in the US Open. I hung out with my other friends nearby afterwards just playing xbox and some music here and there. Not sure if it was the greatest idea hanging out till 1AM again the day before the race, but hey, it's the weekend.

Day 20 - Rest Day

Supposed to do Core synergistics but my body felt pretty beaten up. My friends told me that they were meeting up a the Joe's Crab Shack nearby so I decided I would go do that. I was thinking of doing a workout before they met up because I wasn't feeling too bad after work, but I didn't know when they were gonna call me.

Ended up getting a steampot and it was delicious. I love using those shell cracker things they have there. Kinda like using a knife, but it's made for crab legs.

We were gonna go watch a concert but it was pretty far away so we just hung out at my place and played video games. I'm not sure if this was the greatest idea because we hung out till 2 or 3 am and I was going apple picking at 10 in the morning. My first thought was that I needed rest for the race on Sunday, but hanging out with friends is stress reducing.

Day 19 - Plyometric Cardio Circuit

Sometimes it's easier to get a workout done when you have something else scheduled after it.

I got out of work at 5 then headed out to get my haircut. It's been good lately because I haven't had to wait in line to get my haircut. I was in and out by 5:30 then headed back home to get my workout started. It was breezy outside so I didn't have to turn on the AC to do my workout.

Originally I had Max interval circuit scheduled, but due to my race on Sunday, I wanted a challenging workout, but not "Max" challenging. No need to wear out my legs early. I was told before events, to take it easier on the body, but tougher on the cardio. We'll see how this pans out.

Plyo cardio circuit actually went pretty good today. I did get the usual aches in my shins before football sprints, but they were semi bearable today. I had to skip a few of the ski abs because it does a number on my toes. I don't wanna risk any pre-emptive toe injuries.

Afterwards went out to a dual birthday party. Good times. I ended up eating some cheesecake. It was pretty amazing, so I guess I can eat it.

Day 18 - Nothing again

Today was a little weird. It was pretty windy outside but felt really dry. I had max recovery scheduled but I was thinking about switching it with Yoga to prep for my 5k on Sunday. However as I was sitting on my couch as I got home from work, I didn't feel like doing Yoga either. Since the weather was decent outside I contemplated on doing a bike ride, but as I said, it felt really dry out there.

Since there wasn't much to do, I took a nap. After I woke up at around 7, I thought it'd be a good idea to do Core synergistics since I haven't done it in a while. But for some reason that idea just went out the window. I did end up walking to pick up dinner outside which is a third of a mile away, but 2/3 of a mile walking for the day isn't much exercise in my book.

I think taking the day off was a good idea though. I didn't exactly need a stretch, but I just wasn't in the mood for any cardio either. It gave me time to plan out this week though. Tomorrow will be plyo cardio circuit, Friday will be core synergistics, and Saturday will probably be yoga or X stretch. Need to stretch out the legs for the race on Sunday.

I'm still contemplating on counting this as week 3 or just redoing week 3. I'll see on Sunday. I'm leaning on making next week recovery week and just jump into month two though.

Day 17 - Shoulders and Arms/ARX

Back to the grind. I'm still unsure how this week is gonna pan out, but followed through with shoulders and arms. I had some laundry to do so I threw in a few loads after work. For some reason I've been very sleepy lately and wanted to take a nap after work. Good thing I did laundry instead of taking a nap because my clothes smelled. Well, at least my clothes from rafting on Saturday. After the washing was done, I moved the clothes into the dryer and got started on the workout.

I grabbed my weights and got going. I'm using 10 pounds (5 pounds on each side) on my dumbbell handles, so I'm using about 11-12 pounds per dumbbell. I'm not sure if that's enough weight, but I try make sure my form is correct on my reps. I'm doing the recommended 8-10 reps on the video mostly to keep pace, but also to try to gain some strength. If I know that a time interval is a bit long, I take more time going up and down on the reps. Supposedly this helps with strength gains (or in my case POWER).

I'm not sure where, but I think I hurt something in my left shoulder. On this third week, I've been trying to eek out my last reps to make sure I get the most out of it. Oh well. That's what recovery weeks are for, right?

Ab Ripper X has been improving for me slowly again. The first few moves aren't a problem, but then Fifer Scissors hits and my back starts aching. I think I stopped at 12 and then just took a break until the next move. Also the oblique v-ups really hurt on my left side. Think I only did 15-20 instead of the 25. Mason Twists weren't bad although I remember feeling it early on. Now I don't feel much until the last 10 or so reps, but they're more intense.

I've been wondering if there's a way to position your legs to isolate your abs more during Ab ripper X. I find doing the bicycles in the beginning if I point my toes inwards, I feel it more in the hip flexors. To avoid this, I try to point my feet either straight or outwards. I do this for a few of the other intro moves and I'm not sure if it does anything, but at least my hip flexors don't feel as strained.

Not too bad of a day. A lot more relaxed than a few other days have been lately. I got my clothes out of the dryer and folded them, settled down and watched some US Open. I have a feeling I forgot to do something, but that's ok.

Day 16 - Tragedy

Happy labor day everybody. I agreed to help my parents buy a hot water heater for the house and help them move it inside. Go figure, I got labor to do on labor day.

I was thinking of doing Max Interval plyo in the morning before I headed over to the house. However, I still had a mean headache from the night before. I was trying to relax on the couch, eat some breakfast and watch tv before I left, but my mom gave me a call asking to come around noon. I figured it wouldn't be too bad to do this workout in the evening so off I went. I helped my dad move the water heater and we finished around 3. I was pretty tired from the party the night before so I decided to take a nap.

I was out of sorts for the whole day, so I decided on ditching the workout. I had a lot of things to do like wash some dishes, do laundry, clean the house, etc. I really only got to doing the dishes though.

I'm thinking ahead towards a 5k I signed up for on Sunday. Doing the Max Insanity workouts might be a little too much for my body right now. I'm thinking I might extend the month one workouts by a week, or go ahead with the Max workouts on day 5 and 6 for this week. I'll have to do some research. I'll still go forward with Shoulders and arms on Tuesday, but we'll see where we go from here. I'd like to have a goal date around November because that's my birthday and I'd like to take some time off around Thanksgiving. Pushing back a week might not let me finish then. Time for research it is then.

Day 15 - Chest and Back/ARX

Chest and back was pretty routine today. I felt stronger on the pushups, not the pullups, but what else is new. I thought after a day of rafting my shoulders would be killing me but I wasn't that bad at all. For some reason I felt worse in my knees.

After chest and back, I hit up ab ripper X. I had trouble doing Fifers and the oblique v-ups. I'm guessing it's because or the rafting, but either way, those are always so demanding on your hip flexors. Either that or my form is just incorrect.

I kind of hurried this routine up a little because I had a bbq to attend at 2. I got there at 3, but they didn't have any food ready. I was so hungry. Needless to say it was a fun Labor day bbq. I was introduced to beer 30 lite and four loko.
