The original premise of choosing to do yoga for week 2 in the program was because I thought my body might need a good stretch at this point. I thought about it, and it's not really the case. Either way, I was glad not to have to do an hour and a half of yoga x or those dreaded lunge isolations from cardio recovery.
I bought a yoga mat a few weeks ago to use for Insanity. Insanity was killing my feet so I thought I might buy a mat to cushion the jumps. I used it a few times for that purpose but found that my feet were getting used to the jumping. So, I actually used the yoga mat for the purpose of yoga.
I've done this video a few times before. Once during my first round of p90x. I was thinking of replacing yoga x with this routine, but I never felt the same afterwards. I figured if I wanted the most out of the program, I would just stick to yoga x.
Yesterday, I came to the realization why yoga x felt like such a good stretch. Being out of shape, day 2 (plyometrics) does a number on your legs, namely the hip flexors. Doing Insanity, Shaun T likes to emphasize the deep hip flexor stretch, which is very similar to runner's pose in yoga x. So the real benefit you get out of yoga x is staying in the hip flexor stretch for half an hour. The breathing does help, but I don't see why I need to do the whole 90 minute routine.
So anyway, I go through the entire routine. More like the poor man's version of yoga x. You still get a few downward dogs and vinyasas. Shorter time holding some positions (Like half moon). All in all it's better than doing nothing.
Stay powerful people (and amazing)
